I have a Rover 111i which was bought many years ago without a cigarette lighter socket. It would now be really useful to have one, so I can charge my phone and my Sat Nav in the car. I was just wondering how difficult it is likely to be and how to do it. It would also be useful to know, if it is too difficult for me, how expensive a job it is likely to be.
You should have three wires! one will be live and needs to connect to your ignition!
One will be a live that connects to your headlight circuit!
And the last will be your earth that you connect to the body!
Not difficult – you should already have a blanking cover where it should be – just remove it and you should see the wires there – they are usually generic for all the Metro range. Just connect the wires and make sure the locking plate and nut are tight – take about 20 mins

There sould already be a space for a cigar lighter either next to or near the ashtray but will have a cover over it, if this is the case the wiring for it will be behind said cover so it will just be a case of connecting the socket to it.

Try jamand’s approach then if that does work you can buy an aftermarket lighter kit at any auto parts store or Wally World (Wal-Mart),and mount it under the dash.

Well you can get one from NAPA, it shows you how to install, if it was me I would get the universal one that has one, two or three sockets, all you need is some 12guage wire (black) and some 12guage (red),one, two or three 30amp fusesin seperate holders with a rubber cover, take the black to a good ground and the other end to the first lighter and piggyback from the first one to the others. then take the red and find one,two or three good battery positives and add 1 fuse inline with the other side of the lighter for each one, if you get the single one the wiring is going to be the same, it will give you a metal frame to hold the sockets that will screw to the bottom of your dash, if you go to a repair shop it will cost between $50-$100 for labor plus parts
