How much does the cigarette tax bring in to the government or state?

    I don’t know the exact number, but by stats, in 5 states (estimated), Marijuanna is the biggest cash crop and it is not catalogued for numbers specifically. I would be interested in seeing the number too since Texas just raised it. I smoke on occaision and am Cherokee, makes me want to open a Casino and A Smoke Shop.

    Each state has a different rate and therefore different revenues from cigarette taxes. It is therefore impractical to give you numbers in this space. Each state should have budget and revenue information available on their websites. You may also be able to find some information on or through the below link.

    It took me about 30 seconds to find out Michigan tobacco tax revenues were $23,121,664 in 2005; this translates to $5899 per penny of tax and about 5.1% of the State’s total tax revenues.

    Depends on the state, but I just paid 16.00 a carton duty/tax free on a cruise. I pay 60.00 a carton in NJ and paid 30.00 a carton in FL. So NJ gets a minimum of 30.00 per carton…..
