How much will it cost to repair the cigarette lighter in my car?

cigarette lighter Add comments

I have a 99 Ford Explorer. The cigarette lighter no longer works. It isn’t a fuse. I replaced them all. What could it be? What will i end up paying?

buy a Bic lighter. Maybe 99 cents.

$20 if you have a shop do it, less than $10 if you do it yourself.

you can test yourself with just a test light. remove the cigarette lighter assembly. get to the connector, test for power and ground. Its usually a 2-wire connector. If no power, then you got an open circuit. If no ground then you got a bad ground. If you got both then your cig. lighter is hooped.

If you use the lighter for what it was designed for, to light cigarettes then, you may have a bad heater element in your lighter itself.

If you use the receptacle for plugging in power supply probes for radar detectors, shavers, GPS navigation tools, etc, then you may have damaged the receptacle.

Go to an auto parts place and buy the whole assembly and replace it yourself, it’s pretty easy and the cost should be somewhere around $20.

    good luck

Simple; Next time you goto Wal-Mart or an auto parts store, goto the automotive section of the store and ask a few different people (not sales clerks) ( i.e. people to ask, do it yourselfers) how to fix it and have them show you what to buy.

shouldn’t be more than $10. bucks!

I hope, I helped you out some.
    good luck
