Why do black people smoke Newport cigarettes?

I’m NOT trying to be racist, but, I have noticed that if i bum a cig off a black guy they always have Newports. It’s not just American blacks either, Somalians and other African peoples too.

They were heavily marketed in black communities as were certain malt liquors and other products.

    Maybe you should get a job and buy your own cigarettes! Newports are popular with a lot of people, not just Blacks. For your information, not all Blacks smoke, and not all of the Blacks who do smoke choose Newports. Some Blacks even smoke Marlboros.

    I noticed the same thing. I mean if something has a stereotype that must mean there is some truth behind it so no you are not a racist. Although there is a reason Newport’s nickname is Niggerports.

    Actually that is just bad generalization on your part. My grandparents used to smoke Salem 100’s(before they quit that is). My brother and sister smoke Marlboro cigarettes. How do I know? I was constantly fetching people cigarette packs from their purse when I was younger.

    Maybe because a lot of black smokers like newports.
    It is not racist, Most of my Indian friends, and myself smoke Djarum Black. It is just the way it goes. Seriously How many white people do you know who smoke Marlboro Reds? They call them cowboy killers for a reason.

    because it was marketed to them well. newport uses good marketing strategies. but i dont smoke so i don’t really know.
