I am going on a rugby tour between these countries and my friend has asked for me to get him some cigarettes. We will be visiting either Singapore or Malaysia last (I cannot find the details at the moment) so I am wondering how many cigarettes I can bring home with me. Also I am wondering how many I can bring between the countries in case I find cheap ones in Sri Lanka and buy them there.

Since you have not mentioned your home country therefore, generally 250 cigarettes, or 250 grams of cigars or tobacco products for each passenger aged 18 years or over are allowed as tax/duty free for travellers in most countries. For UK 200 cigarettes; or 100 cigarillos; or 50 cigars; or 250g of tobacco

My friend smokes and asked me to bring back some cigarettes from the airport on my way home from my holiday. How many boxes am I allowed to bring back? Where can I find out? I don’t want to breach any controls..

British Customs — United Kingdom citizens can buy wine, spirits, or cigarettes in an ordinary shop and bring home almost as much as they like. But if you buy goods in a duty-free shop, the old rules still apply — the allowance is 200 cigarettes and 2 liters of table wine, plus 1 liter of spirits or 2 liters of fortified wine. If you’re returning home from a non-European Union country, the same allowances apply, and you must declare any goods in excess of these allowances. British Customs tends to be strict and complicated. For details, get in touch with H.M. Customs and Excise, National Advice Service, Dorset House, Stamford Street, London SE1 9PY (tel. 0845/010-9000; www.hmce.gov.uk).

Im going for a day trip to ireland soon and want to bring some cigarettes back for myself and as a gift for my sister, can anyone please tell me what is the most I can bring back? Ive read somewhere that I can bring back 3200, but elsewhere I have read that it is only 200, any help or tips please??
Many Thanks

You are totally out of luck. They will not sell you Duty free cigarettes when travelling between Uk and Ireland. They are on sale at the airport but if you try to buy them they will check your boarding pass and refuse to sell them. Duty free is only available for travel between countries outside of the EU.
A carton of 200 cigarettes at Dublin Airport is €81.
There is no way around it.

My boyfriend is working in Saudi Arabia and would like to know how many cigarettes is he allowed to bring back with him (through customs) in to the US…. Any suggestions?

I don’t know where "Peter K" got his information from, but you are allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes only which means 1 carton.
Your bf should put one carton inside the check in luggage and a couple packs in different pockets and the carry on. That way he will be fine. Do not overdue it. When caught (and that happens) he will not get punished, but will have to pay tax on it. That way cheap cigarettes will become expensive fast.

I´m 16 and I´ll be flying to germany form mexico carrying 200 cigarettes in the checked lugage(shouldn´t be a problem because the mexican authorities are asleep at the button) but will the germans cause promblems when I get there and secondly can I carry an aditional box of cigarettes(20 cigarettes) in my pocket or carry on?

Most countries allow one carton or 200 cigarettes duty-free, you can bring extra cartons but should declare them and pay the duty. I seriously doubt if any customs agent will quibble over one extra pack.

Im going to New Zealand in a few days and i was wondering how many cigarettes im allowed to take with me on the plane. Also, what are the regulations on flying with cigarettes internationionally from America.

You can import 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco into New Zealand.

As far as I know, the US does not have any regulation for how much tobacco you can export from there.

I am aware of the 200 cigarette limit at the duty free, but am I allowed to bring back cigarettes actually bought inside the country in local shops on which tax has been paid? Or does this count as a duty-free allowance. Is it even legal?
Help would be much appreciated, as I brought back 400 cigarettes from inside Turkey last year, though I bought nothing from the duty-free. As I’m going again this year, I need to make sure I’m within a legal limit.

From outside the EU you can only bring in 200 cigarettes, whether bought duty free or bought inside the country. It’s only other EU tax that counts for bringing in more than 200.

What you should have done last year is go through the red channel and declare the excess 200. You would probably be charged a nominal amount of UK duty and still get a cheap – but legal! – deal.

I once brought in 1,200 cigarettes and my wife 400 from outside the EU. We declared the fact in the red channel. The customs officer said he wouldn’t bother with my wife’s, but couldn’t ignore my excess and would I mind paying £? (which was about 20% of the normal duty charged in shops).
