I noticed in early august @ the local CVS cartons were about $41 plus tax. I went again late Aug to buy a carton and it was now $44 plus tax. Someone told me that there was another tobacco tax increase in Aug 2009. Is this true?
I tried researching it online but can’t come up with anything. Anyone know a website that tells us california had raised the cig tax again and by how much?

All I found were articles about lawmakers pushing for a cigarette tax (dated Aug. 2009), but not any that stated any new tax in August 2009. There was a tax put in place earlier in the year…

Only from specialty tobacconists, you will find them in most major city centres and shopping malls. Probably NZ$12 for 20. Bring with you if travelling, 20 packets (open one carton tho) and 3 bottles spirits.

I live in Orlando, FL about an hour from Tampa, FL. Cigarette prices recently went through the roof here in Orlando. Around $46 for a carton of Marlboro cigarettes. I heard you can buy cigarettes from Indian Reservations for much cheaper (because of tax). In Tampa I guess there is an Indian Reservation. Has anyone done this before and where do you go to buy them? Thanks.

Im going for a day trip to ireland soon and want to bring some cigarettes back for myself and as a gift for my sister, can anyone please tell me what is the most I can bring back? Ive read somewhere that I can bring back 3200, but elsewhere I have read that it is only 200, any help or tips please??

You are totally out of luck. They will not sell you Duty free cigarettes when travelling between Uk and Ireland. They are on sale at the airport but if you try to buy them they will check your boarding pass and refuse to sell them. Duty free is only available for travel between countries outside of the EU.
A carton of 200 cigarettes at Dublin Airport is €81.
There is no way around it.

It depends what store you buy them at. The place by my house they are 7.60 a pack or 7.65? And like $69 per carton Some places will be less, some stores charge more.
I think regular and 100 cigarettes are always the same price.

My boyfriend is working in Saudi Arabia and would like to know how many cigarettes is he allowed to bring back with him (through customs) in to the US…. Any suggestions?

I don’t know where "Peter K" got his information from, but you are allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes only which means 1 carton.
Your bf should put one carton inside the check in luggage and a couple packs in different pockets and the carry on. That way he will be fine. Do not overdue it. When caught (and that happens) he will not get punished, but will have to pay tax on it. That way cheap cigarettes will become expensive fast.

The Federal government has been taxing cigarettes at $3.90 a carton for years, so where the h*ll is that money?

Btw, don’t give me that old it is OK to tax cigarettes, this applies to lots of different taxes being raised.

That’s a very hard tax to track down! When SCHIP came up last year, I tried to find out how my state was using the cigarette tax money and <pardon the pun> it’s smoke and mirrors.

I am traveling to cancun and i was wondering if it would be better bringing my own cigarettes to cancun

I have never seen them here…but I always purchase Marlboro which is readily available (reds and lights).

Yesterday the price was $214.00 pesos per carton at Costco.

So, if you really want Newports…bring your own. You can bring in one carton per person, legally.
