It is not illegal to buy cigarettes online from a diffeent state. It IS illegal to fail to pay New York State and City cigarette sales tax on those cigarettes. You should buy the cigarettes online, compute the tax on the cigarettes and mail it to the city and state. Otherwise, you are breaking the law.

But, of course, what you should really do is what New York City wanted you to do when they raised the tax in the first place – quit smoking. One half of all people who smoke will die from it.

My boyfriend is working in Saudi Arabia and would like to know how many cigarettes is he allowed to bring back with him (through customs) in to the US…. Any suggestions?

I don’t know where "Peter K" got his information from, but you are allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes only which means 1 carton.
Your bf should put one carton inside the check in luggage and a couple packs in different pockets and the carry on. That way he will be fine. Do not overdue it. When caught (and that happens) he will not get punished, but will have to pay tax on it. That way cheap cigarettes will become expensive fast.

I beleive it’s illegal to buy and sell tobacco or firearms online. They are strictly enforced by the Feds. Plus each state has their own tax laws governing them. I thought of growing my own but found out that is illegal also! lol Think I will just quit and go crazy! State disability not too bad! lmao
