The cigarette lighter powers the device but the device plug that plugs into the lighter melts.
If it is not made for that kind of thing, Can I buy one that is, and is made to go into the car? All I can find is replicas of the original. Where do i find said lighter.

Add a 20 amp fuse in line on the positive side of the lighter. The older cars lighters required a higher amperage to work.
Hope this helps. Christopher

I have a 2001 ford escort and the cigarette lighter doesn’t work and I’ve replaced the fuses still nothing works. The lighter itself has rust inside but none of the replacements are what I need. I’ve gone to auto zone and pep boys…no help. Does anyone know what i can do? I need it to activate my xm radio.

go to a parts house. maybe you can visit a wrecking yard. i like to go out and get my own parts at like a pic a part. way cheaper and you may find something else while you are there

I was wondering if there is a safe way to

change the flame color on a cigarette

lighter. I know that certain metals or

salts can be added to a fire to change the

color, but I don’t know if it has ever

been tried on a cigarette lighter. Not

planning on doing anything crazy, just

wanted to be the cool kid on the block.:)

If anyone can recommend a website that

sells colored lighter fluid that would

even be better. Thanks everyone!

no i dont but in your defense…..
HALEY YOU GENIUS…where did he say he smoked? carrying a colored lighter does not mean anything

cigarette lighter fell apart. Put it back together but it seems it is not working. Don’t have manual. Can someone tell me which fuse could be blown?
The fuse box is under the hood. Are we talking about the same thing?

Cigar lighter fuse in the main fuseblock inside the car. A cigarette lighter is NOT to be used for a 12 volt adapter per the owners manual, BUT you can use the power port from a 2003 Galant if that’s what you use it for. Bolts right in.

I have a 2000 mitsubishi mirage and it has a black wire, a blue and red wire, and two wires intertwined, one is green with white and the other is black with yellow. my new cigarette lighter came with one red wire and one black wire. how do i wire them?

Find the wire from your vehicle that has power when the key is in the off position. Connect that wire to the red one on your new cigarette lighter. The other black one on your lighter is connected to a ground on the vehicle or to the black wire from your vehicle harness if you are sure that it is a ground wire.

If I am carrying a (butane gas) cigarette lighter from the UK on a British Airways flight in the cargo luggage, do I first have to remove all its gas ? Thanks for any definite information.

Please do not put this item into a checked bag.

Just about every airport forbids lighters in checked luggage unless they are in an approved leak proof, flame proof safety container.

Here are the rules for lighters from the UK travel safety site

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Publictransport/AirtravelintheUK/DG_078179

= = = = = = =
Lighters
One lighter per person may be carried on a flight. Lighters are considered to be liquids and should be put inside the plastic bag or screened separately. You must keep the lighter on your person throughout the flight.

It is very important that you do not:
* place it in your hold baggage
* return it to your hand baggage after screening

= = = = = = =

If you are talking about a regular Zippo type or disposable type, then it is not a problem – just follow the rules above.

Almost all airports also forbid torch type lighters (for pipe and cigar lighting usually). Do not take one of those. It will most likely be taken away.

I have located both fuse boxes in my car, but have been unable to figure out which fuse delivers power to my cigarette lighter.

And if it’s not a fuse, any other ideas of what the problem may be?

Thank you all for your help!

the one your looking for is on the inside of the car ,if you,ll look in the owners manual it will tell which one is for the cig-lighter in it,i own one but have never had to replace a fuse in it yet, those are good cars though,if its not the fuse it will be the lighter or the socket that it plugs in to,or a wire loose on the back of it,those are simple to repair though, good luck with it.
