I have a 2001 ford escort and the cigarette lighter doesn’t work and I’ve replaced the fuses still nothing works. The lighter itself has rust inside but none of the replacements are what I need. I’ve gone to auto zone and pep boys…no help. Does anyone know what i can do? I need it to activate my xm radio.
go to a parts house. maybe you can visit a wrecking yard. i like to go out and get my own parts at like a pic a part. way cheaper and you may find something else while you are there
I drive a 1999 Mazda Mellinia and the cigarette lighter doesn’t work at all i’m assuming I need a fuse but I’m not sure exactly which one I need.
check your owners manual under fuses alot of times it’s the coil(the part of the lighter you pull out of the dash)that burns out you can get that at pretty much any parts store for a couple bucks
What causes the clock and cigarette lighter not to work on a 1998 Toyota Camry when the fuses have been checked and they are working?
Fuse is usually the same for both these accessories on many cars. Check that first. If the cigarette lighter shorts out or the push in part is bad it can cause this fuse to blow and keep both from working. I see that I neglected to notice you had already check the fuses. That is odd as normally the fuse will blow on that when they both go out. If you are positive that the fuses are good simply trace the wire from the back of the fuse box until you find where it loses power. Most likely near the cig lighter I would bet.
My car cigarette lighter is stuck in its socket. Using force is pulling the whole panel out. If I push the lighter in to charge, it does pop outward after charging, but not enough so that it can be removed. I am unable to use my GPS unit or other devices that need to be plugged in to the lighter socket. Please help!
I have just done this to my Ford. First …. check the fuses ….twice.
The inner part of your lighter is separate from the outer which is hidden behind the panel and is holding the lighter in. First pull the plunge part of the lighter out then you will need to try to get in behind the panel and turn the outer casing with a set of multi grips while holding the inner casing still with something similar, or vice versa. You should only have to unscrew a few screws to get access behind the lighter and once you have a hold of the lighter it should not take much to twist. The Auto shop will charge you $100 bucks to this simple job. And yes DON NOT put WD40 on it.
You have two lengths of fuse and each takes exactly 1 hour to burn. But the fuses don’’t burn evenly and they’re both likely to be different. Using only these two fuses and a cigarette lighter, how do you measure 45 minutes?
Light both ends of one of the fuses (F1), and one end of the remaining fuse (F2). F1 will burn out in 30 mins, then light the second end of F2 which will burn out in 15 mins. 30 + 15 = 45 mins
I have an Escort Sedan.
The cigarette lighter plug doesnt work.
Does anyone know what may be the problem?
I check the fuses on the driver side and they are all good.
ford has never had strong batteries, they are designed to break. you should look at it as a good thing, maybe you can quit smoking now.
I have a 1995 Land Rover Discovery V8i – I’m taking it on a 2 month road trip through Australia and I’m worried the cigarette lighter socket might not last the journey. I need it for a power inverter and a 12v fridge (alternately) but I have little/no knowledge of auto electrics.
The question: is there a safe and easy way to install a second cigarette lighter socket direct from the battery/fuse box?
Thanks in advance!
buy the lighter socket at auto parts store. buy 30amp fuse and holder. connect fuse to + bat terminal and other end to wire to lighter socket. you could use 30 amp circuit breaker instead of fuses. circuit breaker will reset itself. make sure you take extra fuses. take extra stuff just incase. sounds like fun.
I have 2003 Dodge Stratus, and the cigarette lighter has stopped working, i checked the fuses and they are fine, and idea on how the hell to change it?
I’m pretty sure I have to change the cigarette ligher, any help on how?
go to your local auto part store and just buy a new lighter. If that doesn’t work you will need to replace the actual socket
