Neither my wife or I smoke and no one has ever smoked in our car. On separate occasions, both of us have smelled cigarette smoke in the car.

I am hooking up a cigarette lighter that is always hot. I pulled it out of a Geo Storm 92 and am hooking it up to wiring of my own design. I am inclined to believe that the cylinder is negative and the point at the end is positive.
Yup the center point is the positive. All the lighter outlets are the same its the wiring that makes them hot all the time or kill with the keyswitch.

you have to push the lighter in all the way then when it gets hot it will pop out. if it,s not hot then the filament might be burnt out.
