and if drive an older model vehicle can the cigarette lighter destroy the ipod with too much voltage or surges?

please explain

btw, the cigarette lighter recharger says on package that it prevents "Surging"..so how this would do that?..lol

please xplain

btw, which area of the world are you?

thanks for your answers!

the recharger works pretty well on my IPhone when I use GPS.
there’s a resistor? that sets and defines the amount of load and current in the car charger.
as long as you have not modded the charger or the IPod, it should be covered under the warranty.
mod = jailbreaking the IPod, or macguyvering the power adapter voids the warranty

The cigarette lighter, which I mainly use to charge my ipod and cellphone, just stopped working. I don’t use the car often, but this is annoying. I have no idea what to do about this problem, so, perhaps, if someone has ever come across this or knows what to do, maybe someone can steer me in the right direction.

Go to your local AutoZone or other car part place and buy a replacement lighter socket. Remove the old and install the new. The part should be under 6.00 dollars. And maybe 30 minutes or less to change.

The cigarette lighter in my car is stuck and will not budge. Since I don’t smoke, I normally wouldn’t care except that I want that outlet to plug my ipod into. Any suggestions or advice for me? Would a regular auto shop be able to help or would have I to take it to a dealership? Thanks for your help.

I’d say get some pliars and pull the sucker out.

For example… I drive pretty much a different vehicle every day, Sometimes they aren’t in the best condition. If, by chance, the cigarette lighter was faulty could it ruin my MP3 player which is being powered by it?

Not if you are using the correct adapter. The adapter should be fused as well.

But, the lighter in a car has a big fuse rating (15 amps+) so there is plenty of power available to fry your ipod.

Also, if the voltage regulator on the car is a bit ‘iffy’ then there is a good chance of voltage spikes.
