Governor Bredesen of Tennessee is asking the state legislature to raise the tax on cigarettes by 40 cents. He was in Chattanooga telling the people of Tennesee his plan to improve funding and to modify the Basic Education Program, the increase in funding will come from the cigarette tax. A pack of cigarettes will have a 1 dollar tax on it starting Wednesday, April 1st 2009. Maybe it’s a giant April Fools’ joke directed at smokers, maybe it’s for real. I would recommend you buy as many packs as you can before Wednesday to save some major kablinkie. So if you smoke, or are thinking about becoming addicted in the near future, go to your local cigarette store and buy up the whole supply before they start costing you a lung and a trachea. If you don’t you could end up kicking yourself, and your leg will be too tired to then kick the habit.

Where is a libertarian when you need one? cigarette taxes hurt the poor far more than the rich and are regressive and stupid.
