What causes the clock and cigarette lighter not to work on a 1998 Toyota Camry when the fuses have been checked and they are working?
Fuse is usually the same for both these accessories on many cars. Check that first. If the cigarette lighter shorts out or the push in part is bad it can cause this fuse to blow and keep both from working. I see that I neglected to notice you had already check the fuses. That is odd as normally the fuse will blow on that when they both go out. If you are positive that the fuses are good simply trace the wire from the back of the fuse box until you find where it loses power. Most likely near the cig lighter I would bet.
I can’t figure out how to get to the cigarette lighter and how to take it out…any ideas?
Grasp the knob and pull it out………
I have a 93 toyota paseo, and it didn’t come with a cigarette lighter at all, like there is no hole or socket or nothing. Im wondering how much would it cost to have one put in? And would it take a lot of time?
This is for curiosity’s sake, and no its not for smoking but for my gps and other stuff.
it will cost $14,000 …… trust me i know
My cigarette lighter went out in my 96 toyota 4runner. Is there a fuse I should change, or any typical solution/trouble shoot I can do?
Thanks.
should be a fuse for your lighter if the fuse checks out good then it is most likely the element.
You should be able to find a replacement cigarette lighter element at any auto parts store.
I plug my radar detector and GPS into my cigarette lighter socket in my 98 Toyota Avalon, but they occasionally don’t get a steady power connection, so I am guessing the socket is loose. How do I tighten up the socket so it’ll feed a steady power supply?
On some cars, the male retainer behind the dash or console has to be held while the outside female receptacle socket is turned clockwise to tighten.
I recently figured out that my cigarette lighter isn’t working on my 90 Toyota pickup. I don’t know if there is a fuse thats gone out or if its the whole entire lighter. I really need the lighter for cell phone chargers and other things.
Just put the fuse from lighter in place of another fused system of equal amperage and see if that system still works. If it does fuse is good.
Another thing is that its possible, whether it was used or not, that the plug might be corroded or rusted. Especially if it was used. The extreme heat from the heating coil being shorted out can cause aot of corrosion.
